With the effects anticipated to last years, we need to lean on each other for support and help. We at Families Empowered know how hard this will be for the thousands of Houston families we serve.

We’ve collected available resources for parents in one place, and will be updating this page regularly. Here’s what you need to know about Harvey recovery:

Houston 

• Aldine ISD: All classes will resume on Sept. 7. Read more.
• Alief ISD: Classes resume Sept. 11. Read more.
• Alvin ISD: Closed until Sept. 5
 Barbers Hill ISD: Closed until Sept. 5.
 Channelview ISD: Closed until Sept. 5.
 Clear Creek ISD: Classes will resume Sept. 5.
• Conroe ISD: Classes begin Sept. 5.
 Crosby ISD: Closed until Sept. 5.
• Cristo Rey Jesuit College Preparatory School of Houston: The school will be closed until Sept. 5.
• Cypress-Fairbanks ISD: Schools will be closed until Sept. 6.
• First Academy Baytown: The school will be closed until Sept. 5.
 Fort Bend ISD: Closed until Sept. 11.
• Friendswood ISD: Friendswood ISD will resume operations next week. All employees will return to work on Tuesday, and students will return to classes on Wednesday.
• Galveston ISD: Schools will be closed until Sept. 5.
• Goose Creek CISD: Schools will be closed until Sept. 5.
• Houston ISD: Classes begin Sept. 11. Read all HISD Harvey updates here.
• Humble ISD: First day of school will be Thursday, Sept. 7, “under the best-case scenario.”
• International Leadership of Texas: The school will be closed until Sept. 5.
• Katy ISD: Classes will resume Sept. 11
• KIPP Houston Public Schools: Classes resume on Sept. 5. Read more.
• Klein ISD: Schools will be closed until Sept. 5. Lemm Elementary sustained flood waters that will require major restoration so the district has made arrangements to house those students in a wing at Klein Cain High School for the foreseeable future.
• La Porte ISD: Schools will be closed until Sept. 5.
• Lamar CISD: Schools will be closed until Monday, Sept. 11.
• Needville ISD: The district has not updated its website. 
 New Caney ISD: Classes will resume on Sept. 5.
• Parish School and The Carruth Center: Classes will resume Sept. 5
• Pasadena ISD: Schools will be closed until Sept. 5.
• Pearland ISD: Classes will resume Sept. 5.
• Promise Community Schools at the Neighborhood Centers: Will open on Sept. 5th; they have room to receive at least 50-80 additional students at Baker Ripley Elementary, Ripley House Elementary and Ripley House Middle School.
• Royal ISD: Schools will be closed until Sept. 5.
• Sheldon ISD: Schools will be closed until Sept. 5.
• Spring ISD: Spring ISD has delayed the reopening of its schools to Sept. 11
• Spring Branch ISD: Classes will resume Sept. 11.
• Stafford MSD: Schools will be closed until Sept. 11.
• St. Mark’s Episcopal School: The school on Bellaire Boulevard will be closed until Sept. 5.
• St. Pius X High School: Closed until Sept. 5.
• Texas City ISD: Schools will be closed until Monday, Sept. 11.
• Tomball ISD: Schools will be closed until Tuesday, Sept. 5.
• Varnett Public Schools: Schools will be closed until Tuesday, Sept. 5.
• Waller ISD: Schools will be closed until Tuesday, Sept. 5.
• YES Prep: YES Prep Northbrook Middle and High School, classes begin Sept. 6. All other campuses will open on Sept. 7. Read more.

Displaced Students

Many Austin and San Antonio schools are accepting those students displaced by the hurricane and unable to return to their neighborhood schools.

According to the TEA, a family displaced by a natural disaster can immediately enroll elsewhere. These students are also eligible for free-lunch programs.
